Folk Tales Performance.
Folk tales was a performance split into three plays. Commedia Dell'arte, The Tain and also Erik and The Viking. For these shows we had to learn any type of monologue and perform it in a audition in front of our tutors and teachers. I performed a monologue from Your a good man Charlie brown the monologue was called Coat hanger Sculpture by Sally Brown:
A 'C'? A 'C'? I got a 'C' on my coathanger sculpture? How could anyone get a 'C' in coathanger sculpture? May I ask a question? Was I judged on the piece of sculpture itself? If so, is it not true that time alone can judge a work of art? Or was I judged on my talent? If so, is it fair that I be judged on a part of my life over which I have no control? If I was judged on my effort, then I was judged unfairly, for I tried as hard as I could! Was I judged on what I had learned about this project? If so, then were not you, my teacher, also being judged on your ability to transmit your knowledge to me? Are you willing to share my 'C'? Perhaps I was being judged on the quality of coathanger itself out of which my creation was made...now is this not also unfair? Am I to be judged by the quality of coathangers that are used by the drycleaning establishment that returns our garments? Is that not the responsibility of my parents? Should they not share my 'C'?
I do enjoy this monologue as I find it very funny and I also love the production it is from.
I felt like my audition went really well as I got a few laughs and giggles of the panel. After the audition I then got told that I would be in the Commedia Dell'arte performance which is great because this was the one that I really wanted to be in as we learnt Commedia styles in our acting styles class.
Throughout rehearsals I got given two parts. One was Rottalinda the long lost wife of an old soldier who has come home from many years. But Rottalinda being the fiery character she is, she has moved on married again and kicks her old husband away. The other character was Madame Francesca which was a manger of a "renowned company of comedians" this character introduces the next play and also bosses around two other stupid characters.
Rehearsals could of been better as we had a few people who would not turn up for rehearsals and also one person got their part took of them and given to me last minute. I have learnt a lot with commedia. The different styles, the mask meanings and also the mannerisms that comes with the character such as walks voices and even costume and makeup.
Throughout the folk tales performance I also got given small roles such as singing roles in between the acts and also helping out in the Erik and the Viking performance with the dragon which was very fun.
