Professional Graduate Certificate in Education: Education and Training
End of Module Self-Assessment Linked to The Professional Standards
Throughout this module it seems that my teaching profession has developed more as I understand how important it is to stay professional within this profession. Looking at my CV now compare to how it was I am glad I have made the changes because it seems to look more impressive and that I have a good amount of knowledge to become a professional Performing arts teacher within a college. I have done this by stating all of my qualifications but making it clear about the ones I have the highest grades in such as my Diploma and Degree. I think this is more important because these course are those that have helped me increase my knowledge for that particular subject.
As I have attended mentor meetings my knowledge of the teacher role has progressed as I am now more aware of how procedures need to be ran within Darlington College. Being welcomed into these meetings has also helped with my confidence as a teacher as I feel like I can put some input towards our area of teaching. At the moment because I am still seen as a student teacher I do not think some members of staff listen to what I may think might be useful. To overcome this I have to make sure that my teaching is up to standards and gain good grades from my observations and also make sure that any comments made to my teaching are positive.
Looking at my tutorial review records it seems that I struggle with keeping organised with my Uni work as I have other responsibilities such as family life and work at the College as well as AJ Productions. I must find ways to overcome this issue as I do not want it to affect my grades. I also think if I get into the habit now of staying organised it may help me in the future when I take on a full time position as a teacher. This would be vital as a teacher as they can end up with more than one class as well as a variety of units that fall into the courses.
My observations of my peers and experienced teachers can tend to be similar to my own teaching. Apart from behaviour management. Behaviour management is something I must overcome and find a variety of strategies until I find an appropriate one that become useful towards my students. For behaviour management to work I think it is necessary for the teacher to feel confident when teacher their students. If the teacher does no receive respect from their students then it will become difficult to share knowledge within the class.
As we are now at the end of our PGCE programme I would say I have a better understanding of the professional standards that go into being a teacher.
My subject knowledge will constantly increase as I’m sure every day there will be something new to learn about then share with others. Attending the college more improves my professionalism as I have been observing other teachers and staff members.
