Reflection and Evaluation of Micro Teach Sessions

For my micro teach I focused on stage positions. The reason why I chose stage positions is because I wanted to treat my students as if they were all beginners for this topic. I was also aware that one student specialises in the same subject as myself so I prepared more challenging questions for her.
The students followed my Prezi PowerPoint and after the PowerPoint I physically shown the students different stage positions using the space in the classroom. Students decided who would take the role as a director or actor and then pick from two of the scripts I had wrote which would then be performed to the rest of the group.
To finish I had the students to write down a stage position in the correct place on the whiteboard. I used this as an initial assessment to see if they had progressed with the knowledge of stage positions.
The resources I used for my lessons were a Prezi PowerPoint, a resource packet that included two scripts, stage direction flashcards, a theatre dictionary and an activity sheet then explained the practical activity a bit more.

The strengths I had identified for my own micro teach would be that I have a lot of confidence when presenting to the class which I think is important as the students seem more interested.

Over preparing the lesson could also be a negative as I know that I included too many resources for my micro teach as it was only a fifteen minute lesson. I also need to refer to the Blooms Taxonomy for my learning objectives and outcomes as this will help students can reach their targets. Embedding literacy, numeracy and ICT skills are also vital to incorporate into the sessions so students are progressing these skills in all lessons.

The strengths for NC would be that this student seemed very confidant throughout their micro teach. When presenting the micro teach to the rest of the class the presentation seemed to be very simple and plain. This was a positive in a way as NC did not read from the board but it gave her ques with what she needed to explain to the class. The weaknesses for NC would be that she seemed to have rushed through her presentation and that she did not have a structure for what she was teaching to the rest of us. I could tell this because of the lack of presentation she included.

To improve this criminal theory micro teach I would suggest for NC to be more organised for her lesson as it came across messy and rushed.

For my other peers micro teach J chose the topic “Dementia”. To start her session J asked for a volunteer to join her in a role playing activity. The volunteer did not realise that it was role play but it was the perfect example to show how dementia patients feel. The volunteer explained that she felt confused and did not understand what was happening in that situation. This was the perfect example for a dementia patient if they were being treated badly.

The targets for improvement for this peer would be to practice with technology more as she was struggling to play videos, to click the next slide and to also bring up other links to then return to the main slide.
To do this J could experiment in her own time with PowerPoint and look at videos to figure out easier ways to include videos and links to her presentation.
