Fiona Barker was our external guest speaker for our second safeguarding session that took place this morning. Fiona gave us all a folder that included important information about safeguarding and a booklet that included the slides throughout her presentation so we can take notes. As soon as we entered the classroom we all seem intrigued with what was going to happening throughout this session as it seems that Fiona has put a lot of effort into her lesson plan. On our tables we had safeguarding folders and laminated cards with pictures and questions. As soon as Fiona started speaking everyone in the class listened to her carefully. Her confidence and quirkiness grabbed all of our attention to listen to this safeguarding presentation. I think Fiona being quirky is a good thing for our age group as we are all mature enough to have a laugh as well as being focused. I think that if Fiona was this quirky with school or college students they may get over excited but I’m sure Fiona is professional enough to understand the different teaching techniques for various ages.
After our talk with Fiona we spoke about what we need to include in our Micro teach sessions that will be taking place next week. We have to come up with a lesson plan for our specialist subject and teach this to half of the class within 15 minutes. All students including myself seemed to be quite nervous for their micro teach as some still have not decided what topic to choose. I was unsure about what topic to choose for my micro teach as I think performing arts can be quite loud and energetic. Some students may feel uncomfortable throughout my micro teach because of this. To overcome this problem I think I will have to come up with two separate lesson plans and come to a decision which lesson plan to pick closer to the day as I will know the students more.
