In todays first session with my performing arts student i was being observed by a duty manager from the college. This mandatory as i have now been a member of staff (V100) for at least a year. The topic of this lesson was Characterisation and using stanislavski's drama technique to help with their practice and upcoming performances. For my resources i used prezi presentation to show the aims, objectives and also any important information about technique and practitioners that may help with the session. I started with a clip of characters that i put together using movie maker. It was the students job to fill out their worksheets that have been handed out to help come up with character profiles. The students acted positively towards this video and came up with some interesting and imaginitive characters. As myself and my mentor have a good student teacher relationship our students do put on a better behaviour when they know we are being observed. I made sure that the lesson was on pace and fun as we bring out the best in our students when they are enjoying themselves.

The activites i included in this session was: 7 second hot seat- The students were picked to use their character profile to then improve their personality to the rest of the group within 7 seconds. It is up to the student to include technique that they have learnt from the stanislavski slides. Emotion Improv- The group are split into smaller groups using lollipop sticks. They are then handed out an emotion to portray to the rest of the group by putting together a devised piece. The rest of the students will have to answer what emotion they think the group were given. Questionaire review - Questions were read out to the students to answer. The first student to stand up and answer the question correctly wins a point. The student with the most points wins a prize.

I beleive this session was a success as behaviour was on track as well as the pace. I enjoy teaching these students as we all share the same interest in performing arts, therefore this makes it easier to teach. When recieving my feedback from the duty manager, who is also my tutors boss within higher education (which is lucky) i was told i could also use this observation towards my PGCE portfolio. Overall i recieved a grade 2 for both observations which i am over the moon with!
