PGCE Night Out

Tonight was our first night out together that most of our peers went to. Myself and another peer who have became close first met up at starbucks to take a hot drink along with us. We then drove to another peer house who we would be staying at as both of us live 30 minutes away from Darlington. Conversation in the car consisted of how our PGCE course was going. We both agreed that it is a huge difference to our last degrees at University and its hard to get used to because of the work load as well as putting lessons together to take the role as a teacher. I was stating that as i came from a practical course it is very hard to take on a load of essays and assignments that are needing harvard referencing and short deadlines. Comparing my Performing arts course we had to learn lines for shows, write our own scripts along with an online portfolio and some essays. Our PGCE consists of a load of essays, formative and summative, along with fitting in teaching hours. The actual teaching is were i feel more confidant as i am on my feet physically teaching and showing my students technique and skills.

When we arrived at our location were we were meeting our other peers, the same topic came up with aother peer whos specialist is Art. He was explaining that he came from a practical course that consisted of putting together portfolios of his work along with some essays and is also finding it hard on this course. All of us also spoke about how frustrating it can be when everyone in the class are constantly asking questions about assignments and this could be because of the different levels in our group. For example we have students who have came from college to this course therefore they are working at a different level with their work (CERT ED). Some students have already got their masters or even a PHD in their specialist subject, therefore they have had a lot of practice when it comes to essays and assignments. Then we have our students who have been to college, gone to university to study their specialist subject and came onto this course.
