Today i was called in to cover my mentors session with the performing arts. This session consists of a full days rehearsal at the venue they will be performing at. We all met at the college to then go on the bus that will be taking us to the venue together. As i was still feeling unwell i could tell the students felt sorry for me when they heard me speak and seemed to be at their best behaviour at first.
When we arrived at the venue the building looked old and i did not know where to go as i was not told any information about this rehearsal. We walked into the building and had i lead the group down a random corridor which lead us to the office. We were then taken to a hall. My students started to behave unprofessional as there was an old damp smell to the place and they felt the need to announce it with the lady from the office still being there. Unfortunatly i had a student who was very upset as she was dealing with her brother being in hospital. This made the other students frustrated as they did not see the reason why she was "allowed" to sit out. As this student is known for walked out and crying i let her to it as i had to concentrate on all of the students rather than one. This day was frustrating as the students do see me as a student teacher rather than their actual tutor. They did work hard but i feel that i need to change my behaviour management technique to make them respect me more which will then make them work harder.
