New Student Interviews

Tonight myself and my mentor invited students that have applied for the Level 2 and 3 Performign Arts course to a group interview at the college. It felt a privilage to be asked to come attend this "Interview" as it has made me more confident that i will be continuing teaching for the Performing Arts course in September. When i turned up to the room were all the future students were meeting, Mattie had already started with a quick brief of what the courses included on both levels. I was introduced as the Level 2 Programme Leader which made me feel amazing! I could tell that these students were looking at me as this person with a lot of responsibility that will help them, i loved it!

We then started with playing some icebreaker games which were fun for all of us. I like to play these games with the students as it shows them that us members of staff are also normal and can get things wrong at times, as the games could get confusing at times.

I lead my game Bippity Boppity Boo which shown both of us how confident the new students are as the game does need people to be expressive and big with their actions. I could see some were very nervous and felt daft as they were not talking loud enough to hear. This can be a bad thing for students who attend a performing arts course as some activites that take place need the performers to feel comfortable and come out of their comfort zone.

We then played another improv game of my own called Criminal. At first we used some of our own students to demonstrate how it is played, then we had some of the new students to give it a go with myself and mattie. This was ery interesting to do as we could then see the different levels of performance skills within the students.

Interview workshops do work very well with performing arts as within the workshops we are able to deliver games and activites to see how well people can perform there and then.

We are both confident to say that most of these students will be accepted onto this course. I am so excited ! I just hope that i get kept on as the students also approached me with questions at the end which made me feel like their programme leader.

Fingers crossed!
